Windhoek / Swakopmund — Namib Desert. The tour starts in the morning at Heusis Ranch or Okambara Lodge. Through impressive scenery, the route leads us to the small settlement of Solitaire and on to the beautifully set Namib Naukluft Lodge & Soft Adventure Camp, both on the private NamNau Habitat reserve — home to desert-adapted game like springbok, ostrich, earth wolf, bat-eared fox and many more. Dinner, bed and breakfast included.
Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei, Sesriem Canyon. An early rise with a snack lets you reach Sesriem, the park gate, around sunrise. The route follows the Tsauchab dry riverbed through the dunes to the clay pan — the Sossusvlei. The early morning sun gives spectacular pastel colours in the star-shaped dunes, a highlight for the keen photographer. After a first stop at Dune 45 and a picnic breakfast under a shady camel-thorn tree, you continue to the Dead Vlei, then visit the 30-metre-deep Sesriem Canyon before returning to base for a late lunch. A late-afternoon sundowner drive to the natural marble mountains on this 25,000-ha reserve is included. Overnight with full board.
Namib Desert — Windhoek / Swakopmund. Departure at 09:00 (08:00 during Namibia's wintertime) and travel back to Windhoek or Swakopmund, arriving around 12:30.
Namibia is famous throughout the world for its stunning shore fishing. These fish-rich waters are fed by the cold Benguela Current, which brings plankton-rich water and is home to large numbers of fish, sharks and marine mammals such as whales, dolphins and huge colonies of Cape fur seals.
Large shoals of kabeljou roam the beaches most of the year, alongside smaller shark species, while the larger bronze whaler sharks — also known as copper or narrow-tooth sharks — move inshore in great numbers during the warmer summer months. Every angler across the world should pit themselves against these sharks at some point.
Heusis Ranch — Swakopmund. The safari continues through the scenic Khomas Hochland, down the escarpment into the Namib — the world's oldest desert — a drive of about four hours. On arrival in Swakopmund you check in and spend the day at leisure; the restaurants at the ocean are world-famous for their oysters and lobster.
Swakopmund — shark fishing. Fishing takes place from shore, anywhere from 8 km up to 120 km along the coast, with 4×4 vehicles transporting the anglers. The most common catches are kabeljou, black tail, steenbras, galjoen, catfish and a variety of shark species — especially copper shark, which can reach a weight of up to 180 kg. A lunch pack and drinks are included.
Swakopmund — Windhoek. After breakfast you have some time at leisure. In the early afternoon you travel back to Windhoek, arriving around midday and dropped off at your accommodation or the airport, where the tour ends.
